ODP Coaches Bios

Joel Ganey

I grew up playing in the ultra competitive Southern California soccer scene, where I played for the Strikers out of Orange County. After high school, I went on to play two years of college soccer also in Southern California. While playing in college, I started coaching high school soccer and with the club, the Pateadores, out of Orange County, California.

From there I decidedIe needed a change of scenery and decided to finish my degree at Montana State University in Bozeman, where I graduated with a B.S. in Human and Health Performance with a focus on Exercise Science and a minor in coaching. I continued coaching soccer while at MSU with the Blitzz, Montana ODP, and Bozeman High School.

After graduating from MSU, my wife and I moved back to Southern California where I picked up where I left off, coaching high school soccer and with the Pateadores. I then moved to coach soccer at Mater Dei High School where I also became a strength and conditioning coach for all of their high school sports. In addition to coaching multiple teams with the Pateadores, coaching soccer at Mater Dei, and doing strength and conditioning coaching at Mater Dei, I also worked as a private strength and conditioning coach while there.

My wife and I missed Montana, however, and decided that being back in Bozeman would be a great place to start a family. I currently live in Bozeman with my wife and 2 year old son, where I am the Technical Director for the Blitzz and have coached with Montana ODP for the past 3 years.

Throughout my coaching and playing career, I have gotten the chance to play with and coach with some of the top players and coaches around the country. I’ve also played with and coached multiple players that have gone on to play at some of the top college programs around the country, as well as players that played and still play professionally both in the MLS and oversees. In addition, I have also coached a couple players that have played with the US Youth National teams as well as the US Men’s National Team. I currently hold a USSF B license as well as the USYS Y license.

I have been coaching in Missoula for over ten years now. My passion is everything soccer: watching, playing and especially coaching! I am a National "D" licensed coach, I was the volunteer assistant with the University of Montana Women's team for four years, I have been the Missoula Strikers Academy director, Micro Strikers director and a Missoula Strikers coach for ten years. I am married and I have a wonderful boy, Elijah, almost two now. I enjoy the outdoors and fishing, hiking and hunting. I am a bartender by night and a soccer coach by day. This is my story
