The Montana Development Program ("MDP") was created by Montana Youth Soccer in an effort to improve and expand its previous Olympic Development Program ("ODP"). MDP still contains certain traits and aspects of ODP, but its been largely updated to better suit the uniqueness of soccer in Montana as it focuses on player and personal development.
Players that attend an MDP Identification (ID) event are evaluated by staff coaches. At the conclusion of the ID process in early September, players are placed on either the State Team or Pool Team for their age and gender.
Pool Team players who accept their spot in MDP will train once a month on Regional Training Weekends. These players will have the opportunity to earn promotion to a State Team by attending Regional Training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to development and through hard work.
State Team players who accept their spot in MDP will train as much as twice a month. One session will be held at a central location and include only designated State Team players for each gender and age. These sessions will be called State Team Training Weekends. The second monthly training session will be during Regional Training Weekends where Pool Team and State Team players will train together by region.
The three MDP regions (East, Central & West) across the state are utilized to limit travel time and expenses for players during Regional Training Weekends. Below is a map detailing the boundaries of each region.
