It is impossible to put into words the immense dedication and passion Ralph Serrette had for soccer and for everyone who wished to play the beautiful game. Ralph possessed a unique gift for recognizing talent, always believing that “the player you cut today could be your champion tomorrow.” His deep love for his athletes was always returned in kind, with players affectionately calling him “Trinidaddy.”Ralph’s contributions to the soccer community were immeasurable. He founded the Sabres Soccer Club, a cherished organization that nurtured young soccer players each spring in the Bitterroot Valley. As the Stevensville High School Varsity soccer coach for over 32 years, Ralph’s influence reached countless lives. He gave tirelessly, often donating not only his time but his own funds to maintain the renowned Stevensville Soccer Complex, famously known for having the best grass in the state. Ralph will be profoundly missed by everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was not just a coach; he was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration. Ralph had a huge heart, a deep love for soccer, and an even greater love for the young people who played it.Ralph was a beloved member of the Montana Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) family, dedicating countless hours to supporting soccer throughout Montana. He was a founding member of the Big Sky League now known as the Classic League. He served as the Classic League Representative on the MYSA Board for six years. He was a great referee and found true joy in teaching and recruiting young referees to be involved in the game. His commitment went far beyond coaching; he volunteered tirelessly, ensuring fields were ready for play, even when his home teams weren’t involved. Ralph took on every role with enthusiasm and humility—he was the assignor, coach, manager, janitor, fundraiser, cheerleader, mentor, landscaper, referee, and a true friend to all. Ralph’s presence will be deeply missed, especially at the MYSA scheduling meetings, where he was known to take a well-deserved nap on the hallway floor. He was loved by so many, and his passion for the game and the community he helped build will leave a lasting legacy.
